Jennifer's Teaching Philosophy
It is a teacher's responsibility to create a positive learning environment for an appropriate curriculum. I believe that my role as a teacher is to encourage students to learn, explore, and reach, no, go beyond their full potential and goals. A teacher should offer students not only a new way of thinking, but also challenge them to reach high levels of thinking. I also believe that it is important to be a role model for my students. Teachers should play a role not only in the classroom, but outside the classroom as well. I feel that students should feel comfortable coming to his or her teacher when a problem occurs, both in and out of class. It is my responsibility as a teacher to present myself in such a way that my students will feel comfortable and confident enough to talk to me. It is also my responsibility to be fair and consistent to each and every student.
Learning-one of the most important aspects of education- is the addition of information to one's already existing ideas and knowledge. Learning is never finished, is a life-long process. One learns many new things throughout the day, and may not even be aware of it. One learns from everything experiences and achieved. Learning, in general, is exciting, never ending, and is experienced by everyone. I want to get my students excited about mathematics and discover that math is relevant to their everyday life. I want to show my students that math is right at their front door through many examples and activities that involve what the students do on a regular basis. Parents must be involved in their child's education. I believe it is a teacher's responsibility to keep the parents updated on their student's education. Students need the support of their teachers, their community, their peers, and their parents to succeed and become life-long learners
