CEP 800 Psychology of Learning in School and Other Settings
Instructor: Zach Mural
In this course, I was able to understand how to change what is learned by the way a concept is being taught. While doing multiple projects for this course, I was able to analyze students' understanding by looking at a variety of teaching strategies, while developing my own understanding of the effects of using technology in the classroom or in other settings. Through many learning strategies, such as, behaviorism, adaptation, and social constructivism, I developed a better knowledge of students' thought process, as well as, the importance of interactive lessons for students to recollect easier. I was interested in the psychology part of the class, not realizing the amount of use and research of technology in the classroom. Too my surprised, this class allowed me to learn new ways to present concepts and new ways for students to show their understanding.
EAD 801 Leadership and Organizational Development
Instructor: Dr. Nancy Colflesh
This course challenged me as a leader and the roles I was playing at school. Throughout this course I was able to develop meaning and understanding to a professional learning community. This course not only was about defining leadership but gave insight on strategies to become an effective leader. This course not only reminded me about the importance of relationships and communication, whether it is as a teacher in a classroom, head of a departments, or head of a school, if people do not work together towards a goal, it may never be reached.

ED Concepts of Educational Inquiry
Instructor: Dr. Steven Weiland
This class challenged the purpose of education and how the importance of it could change how and why one would teach. I learned many new ideas about inquiry and how even a retiring teacher has new things to learn. After reading "The Girl with the Brown Crayon" by Vivian Paley, I was inspired by how much can be learned by just asking "why?". It reminded me of how much I could learn from my students. Throughout this course I was surprise, yet not surprised, that the most successful learners were people who always ask why and never stop looking for new knowledge and improvement.

Fall 2012
EAD 824 Leading Teacher Learning
Instructor: Dr. Nancy Colflesh
For this course, I got to put myself in the position of Principal. I learned new strategies to help my teachers enrich their knowledge and develop collaboration skills to further their students' education. I was able to make a year-long plan on how I would encourage and evaluate the improvement of my team. I have never felt more accomplished that after this course. One of the most important ideas I left with was the fact that growth takes time and when there are too many implementations the team breaks down and the focus is no longer there. Baby steps create strength and time for learning and adjustments.

Summer 2013
CEP 883 Psychology of Classroom Discipline
Instructor: Dr. Alicia Fedewa
The first major focus of this class was about creating a positive and safe classroom environment. The realization in this was that a teacher's classroom environment changes with each new class of students. How a room is set up, the teacher-students relationships that are created, and the peer-peer relationships that all have positive and negative effects on the classroom management. This course presented multiple strategies and best practices for how to improve a learning environment. It also gave me a chance to build plans around case-studies that ere given to us. This course happened to be another link to the idea, the more one thinks about what could happen, the more one is prepared when it does happen. And being prepared will allow the students a better chance to get back on track to expanding their understanding.
TE 861C Action Research in K-12 Science and Mathematics Classrooms
Instructor: Dawnmarie Ezzo
This course taught me how to bring action research into my decision making. Throughout this course I was able to learn about the steps that go into what makes an effective action research project and what to do with the data collected. What I liked the most was how I was able to develop whatever I wanted to know around my classroom. The most difficult part was what to narrow down what I wanted to understand deeper. I took away from this class, the knowledge of not only how to perform an action research project but what knowledge one can attain. In my action research I was able to see the benefits in written communication in mathematics. I was able to inquire on the thoughts of my students on a specific concept without giving them too much direction. This course showed me the importance of on-going action research and how it can enlighten a teacher to new ideas to promote understanding.

Summer 2014
EAD 860 Concepts of a Learning Society
Instructor: Dr. Steven Weiland
This course describes the idea of a learning society, a group of people who never stop learning. It also brought up the fact that not all learning has to be I nor come from formal education. I enjoyed the sense of encouraging someone, a student, to develop a sense of inquiry and a sense of learning how to learn. This course made me reflect on the importance of how and not what is being learned. I know I want my students to leave my classroom with first, the skills to learn on their own and then, the concepts of mathematics.
TE 831 Teaching School Subject Matter with Technology
Instructor: Dr. Douglas Hartman
This course showed how the importance of bringing technology into the classroom. A student becomes engaged and energetic when a new technology is incorporated into teaching a concept, let alone having technology based projects, are a way for students to show their understanding. This course gave me multiple ideas, form a video or a game, to students creating a movie clip, to bringing more technology into mathematics. I was then able to analyze the results of using technology and what the students preferred. There are still some negatives to bringing certain devices into the classroom but there is no doubt that technology could bring a student one step closer to better understanding a concept.

Fall 2014
ED 870 Capstone Seminar
Instructors: Dr. Matthew Koehler, Spencer Greenhaigh, Brittany Dillman, Sarah Keenan
This course has given me two opportunities. The first opportunity that was presented to me was developing a website that I could put time and myself into. I am not a technological person and this has brought new challenges, some frustrations, and even some successes in my life. The second opportunity that this class has brought was time to reflect on everything I have learned. Throughout my Masters programs I have learned the importance of reflection and with it I have gained the confidence in my leadership and my position as educator to help mold young minds.
